In Memoriam

Rebecca Johnson-Lynn (Macrae)

Rebecca Ann Lynn-Macrae, nee Johnson, died Monday, February 4, 2008, after a prolonged battle with a brain tumor. She died at her home in McAllen, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. A sixth-generation Texan, Rebecca was born on May 9, 1969, in Houston to Kathy and James Johnson. She spent her early years in Houston before moving to Glencoe, Illinois.

Rebecca loved to travel and experience other cultures. After high school she moved to London, England, to study and ended up staying for four years. She received her undergraduate degree in literature from the University of London, and her law degree from Cardozo Law School in New York City. Rebecca practiced law in Chicago, and clerked for Cook County Judge James F. Henry.

Children were always an important part of Rebecca's life. She spent several years caring for the children of family friends - she is loved dearly by those children and their parents. Rebecca's greatest wish was to be a mother and this wish was granted with the birth of her daughter Susannah. The many magical qualities in her little girl reflect that she was a wonderful, loving mother.

Rebecca is survived by her loving husband Alastair Lynn-Macrae, daughter Susannah, parents Kathy and James Johnson, sister Erica Johnson, grandmothers Jennie Chance and Marguerite Bates, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers William L. Johnson and Alpheus A. Bates and step-grandfather Walter A. "Pap" Chance, uncle William L. Johnson, Jr., and aunt Mary Carolyn Ratcliff.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 9, 2008, at the Presidio La Bahia Chapel in Goliad, Texas.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Memorial Donation to Black Beauty Ranch, The Humane Society of the United States, 2100 L Street NW, Washington, D.C. 20037.
